Prof. Dr. Daniel Salber on the Master’s degree in Media Psychology:

“Media make people into people.”
“What is the significance of media in the world we live in? How do the media influence society? How does society influence the media? How do I design an effective advertising campaign? How do social media work? In the Master’s degree in Media Psychology these questions are answered on the basis of depth psychology research. The course will give you the necessary tools for strategic and creative work in the media, advertising agencies, public relations, media planning, advertising research and market research.

Only by understanding how media function can you employ and shape them effectively. Taking a psychological perspective opens your eyes to how media influence us both consciously and subconsciously (“the hidden persuaders”). Media are more than just transmitters of information – media  configure the entire world around us. In the broader sense, literature, cars, coffee cups and yoghurt pots are also media through which people conduct exchange with one another and with nature. From this point of view, the mass media come to be seen as special cases within a media world that shapes human existence from the very beginning. Myths were the first media.

The degree course combines systematic theory and comprehensive practice of media psychology. Students will gain experience from media practice, impact research, brand consulting, campaign development, corporate communications and the media industry on the basis of scientific methods. The aim here is not only to acquire knowledge and skills, but also to further the students’ personal development through training sessions and personal experience based on a consistent media psychology approach.”
