Piet de Blaauw (*1969) started his journalistic career as a correspondent in Scandinavia for Dutch newspapers, tv stations and radio. After returning to the Netherlands he switched to tv reporting, working for leading current affairs programs, specialized in foreign reporting in countries like Afghanistan, Indonesia and Iraq. In recent years Piet has been working as an independent documentary director for Dutch PBS, focusing on foreign affairs, politics and historical topics. In 2021 he produced the award winning documentary „The Sobibor Tapes“. This film is based on a series of interviews made in the beginning of the 80s in Hagen/Germany with survivors of the uprising of Sobibor on October 14th 1943. Currently Piet is producing an international follow up documentary series about Sobibor. The focus is on the psychological impact of Sobibor on the first, second and third generation. The people on the Tapes have died, but their descendants live all over the world: Israel, Australia, Brazil, USA, Ukraine, Russia and the Netherlands. The impact of the events in Sobibor are felt until the present day. Sobibor is not only a historical story, it is a current affairs story.
