Semester abroad

Expand your horizons and gain unforgettable experience abroad.

A semester abroad offers valuable advantages:

  • You have the opportunity to study at a partner university of the BSP. You get to know a different university culture, didactics and learning atmosphere
  • You get to know another country and its culture and improve your language skills
  • You act as an ambassador for the BSP and actively contribute to network building.
  • In principle, your study achievements abroad can be recognized - subject to a case-by-case assessment.

It is advisable to make an appointment with the International Office at an early stage in order to plan a semester abroad. In addition to regular information events, various partner universities are invited to the BSP for informational presentations during the semester; this should help you in your decision-making process.

Application

You usually start your semester abroad between the 3rd and 6th semester. Usually the winter semester is more suitable for a semester abroad. In the counseling interview, the semester abroad is planned individually and the appropriate semester is selected.

Within the BSP cooperations the selection of applicants is based on

  • Number of study places at the partner university
  • level of study and academic performance
  • level of the language of instruction and the language of the country
  • Motivation of the students

Application deadlines depend heavily on the host university you plan to attend.

You should start preparing and researching about 10 months before your planned semester abroad and contact the International Office.

For language preparation in English-speaking countries, we recommend participating in the Career Center's workshop program.

Course Selection at the Host University

Before your semester abroad, you will clarify with the program director and the International Office whether and how you can have study and examination achievements from abroad recognized at the BSP. In this context, please note that the BSP cannot guarantee that courses offered abroad will be recognized.
